Budhadeb Halder works as a waiter in a line hotel near Nandi Para Bus Stand. Owing to his hearing impairment, he often faced problems with customers regarding the order they place and what he actually fetched for them. His employer reported that there had been countless number of times when a customer ordered a dish and Budhadeb served another dish which sounded very similar. This often leads to quarrel between the customer and the people engaged in the line-hotel. The employer was on the verge of firing Budhadeb.
At a health camp organised at Nabadwip, Budhadeb was identified to be suffering Bilateral SNHL. However, his meagre income prevented him from buying a hearing Aid. Thus Turnstone Global intervened and provided Budhadeb a Hearing Aid.
Our field workers visited the Line Hotel after about 4 months of providing the Hearing Aid. Budhadeb’s employer and other staff working at the Line Hotel reported that quarrels regarding serving wrong dish have been unheard off, ever since Budhadeb started using the Hearing Aid. Today, Both Budhadeb and his employer are happy working together.
