He is not Oprah but his blindness brings light for many underprivileged!!!

It was 1987,Rajat was youngest member of his joint family and was only child of his parents .In a very tender age he lost his father who was an affluent businessman in his era  ; died with cerebral stroke. Being youngest in his family he got lots of affection from all of his family memebers as well he was always loved by his neighbours. Since childhood he was a sport loving boy and participated various inter colony tournaments of football and cricket. Beside he was good in study and was the student of one of the very prestigious school in kolkata ; st.james school. on and off he got absent in his school as he had to attend his ophthalmologist in regular interval for his routine check up as he was suffering with  dimness of vision .Though he was very much reluctant with his eye condition and never felt down due to that issue. In a bottom line he was living his life in his own condition.

One day a heart wrenching event shattered him in all way. He was in class ten at that time and the celebration mood of annual sport day was in full swing among the students and teachers in his school .He took captaincy over his school cricket team. He was in his mid playing the cricket and was almost approaching to touch century but alas!! Suddenly he bowled out unexpectedly and started behaving with very awkward manner by spreading his both hand in mid field .The physio in his team ran towards him and started inquiring. Getting the truth he shocked and immediately informed the school authority regarding that grave consequences with his vision stating that Rajat  could not able to see long distant object around him. Immediately the school principal informed Dipak’s guardian.

Rajat’s father Haribhushan rushed into the school and took him to his opthalmologist. After through check up the doctor informed his father that as Rajat was suffering from a genetic disorder called retinitis pigmentosa; so gradually he was losing his vision slowly and it may arrest any time in his life and at that time he could only see the object of 1 feet distance. On that day the doctor counseled both rajat  and his father and advised his father to put his son in any blind school for his further study as at that time the concept of inclusive education was beyond the scope. Being shattered they came back home .Haribhushan explained everything to his wife sumoti who was very pious lady and always remained confined in her small temple situated on the courtyard of their house. Having known the every details she broke down and kept herself locked inside her temple for almost 24 hours and on the same day in middle of night Haribhusan became victim of cerebral strock and passed away on the way to hospital. All of a sudden the rhythm of the ‘Das’ family came into a halt. Almost every one of the family started accusing somita  and her son Rajat for such unwanted death of Haribhushan and slowly they segregated them from the root of ‘Das’ family.

Slowly with time both son and mother took the normal space of their lives. His mother sumoti managed time to look after the business of haribhushan and admitted Dipak in a reputed govt blind school in kolkata. In that school Dipak explored a different dimension of life and found the light of darkness which enable him to observe his surroundings with different vision. In a mean while he became addicted to rock climbing and trekking and just after completion of his class 12 board examination he set in for his first trekking at Annapurna base camp in Uttar Pradesh with a professional trekker team based in kolkata. It was 14 days trip along with the difficult passes of multiple hills, villages. The sky kissing , snow ridden beautiful mountains showered with beautiful moon light brought a noticeable change in Rajat’s pshyche. After returned back to kolkata he decided to dedicate his life for the services of   humanity and started studying multiple books written by Swami Vivekananda in audio version and simultaneously he started accumulation of fund to develop a school and primary health centre for underprivileged people on  the deserted land in Purulia District and after huge struggle in the year of 2010 he setup a beautiful English medium primary school along with a small health centre at hura block in the district of Purulia .Today he becomes the heart throb of every house hold  of that locality.

As we always put lots of agenda in different administrative houses regarding the development of our beloved country. But we never inspire our near one or dear one to think for the betterment of our country and accordingly to act .Most of us think that my son /my daughter will come first in the class having written the life story of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose but how many of us can forward our son/daughter to carry the legacy of that sacrifice   which can able build a strong and progressive nation??

let’s  take a pledge to teach the values of self respect, togetherness, selfishlessness to our young generation who are the spine of our country .
