Basic Education for Non-formal school children

INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of this report is to explain what I did and learned during my 20days internship programme with Turnstone Global in the section of basic education for non-formal school children. This report is also requirement for my PGDM social work course from Rabindra Bharati University. It also helpful for the organization further development.

WHAT IS TURNSTONE GLOBAL:
It is a non-profit social enterprise working on human lives, public health, community development, disable person to make the world free from poverty and unemployment. Their main focussing area is non formal school and that children, geriatric health care, blood donation camp, sanitation and hygiene system, mother and child care, library service, braille press, brick field school, scholarship, health camp, legal support, vocational training, self-help group.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE COURSE WORK:
As a intern they gave me the opportunity to work with their educational programme, which support kids who are out of school in the slums of Basanti Colony, Kolkata area. I went there regularly and take their classes, motivated them, teach them about the basic awareness of hygiene system, needs of education in their life, build up awareness to the society, their culture, personal health. Apart from studies, they had other creativity skills like dance, play, acting, drawing, singing. They also took part in many cultural programmes.

Turnstone global also take care of their children nutritional needs as well as their health requirements. They also provide them books, cloths, personal care products with free of cost.

IMPACT OF MY WORK:
I enjoyed working with the team. Most of the times I was not referred to as an intern but as basic education staff. This give me lots of self-confidence and exposure.

OUTCOME:
After 18 days of my internship, we arranged a performance evaluation test for the kids for a better assessment. 26% students scored A grade , 15% students scoredB grade, 33% C grade , 26% scored D,33% c grade.

EXPERIENCED:
The staffs of the educational home is very helpful. Shyamoly Di, her named, she is very caring and helpful. She takes initiatives of each student and their families on a personal level and were able to update their parents on their child’s progress at the end of the school day. She also engaged me with this work and took me once visited the slum area, introduce me with the slum’s people and their family.
The students looked happy to be there and seemed comfortable in their environment. They listened to the teachers and were very excited to show me everything they were learning.

CONCLUSION:
I am very happy and thankful to the organization (Turnstone Global) for giving me this lovely opportunity to work with them as an intern. In future, I am very much interested to working with this organization. The staffs were very helpful and encouraging Special thanks to Dr. Kanchan Gaba mam, a great experienced working with this organization. I never forgot the kids, their love, memory which they gave me during my work. Hope the kids’ future will be better and Turnstone Global initiatives may fulfil in future for a betterment.
