Yaas Intervention

“I am Banbehari Shit S/O: – Khirad Shit a resident of shibpur at sagar island , in district of South 24 Pargana . I lived with my my wife in a mud house near the bank of river . Yaas cyclone wiped out my house and I have lost all my savings stored in my hut. Now since 1o days I along with my wife stay in a temporary shelter made by the Tarpaulin. We did not get food to eat for last 3 days “

During our field visit we found that Banbehari Shit was suffering with high grade fever with severe loose stool .Having checked by our community doctor we found that he was suffering with diarrhoea. Having checked extensively we found that both of them were not taken care by their only son since long and the devastating flood snatched all their savings along with their hut . Our supply of 3 squre meal and medicine sve their lives dying from hunger and illness

On the afternoon May 26,2020 the devastating Yaas Cyclone hit Sundarban area and destroyed many lives and livelihood . Yaas’s landfall along with high tide was resulting in breach of the embankment and tremendous flooding. The devastating flood was causing huge damage to the agricultural land , fishery business and individual property. Being the largest active delta in the World , Sunderban,with it’s 52 Islands ( under Indian Territory) is the home for more than 5 million people and most of the inhabitants of Sunderban are farmers and fisher folks. Due to raise in water level beyond embankment the saline sea water entered in the agricultural land and freshwater ponds which causing severe damage of local flora and fana , crops and live stocks like fish , hen , goat , poultry and the effect of this destruction will may remain for next few years

• Cooked food by setting up different community kitchens
• Dry Rations
• Bio degradable mosquito repellents , mosquito net
• ORS, Anti Diarrhoeal and anti-emetic medicines
• Sanitary Napkins, Musk, Soap, Foam Detergent ( Water less ), Utensils
• Cloths, Plastic Wrapper, Tarpaulins
• Sand bags to recreate the destroyed river embankments
• Bleaching powder to stop breading of mosquito and other communicable diseases
